FAQS
Injectables

When BOTOX® is injected into a muscle it activates a process called selective muscle denervation.

This is when the neuromuscular junction – where the nerve and muscle meet – has its receptors blocked from acetylcholine: the chemical which forces the muscle to contract.

Therefore, even though the nerve continues to send a signal which requests movement, the tissue does not receive the instruction and the muscle remains still.

Over 3-5 months, the muscle gradually grows new receptors and is able to contract again.

Botox is most effective in the correction of lines which are formed from muscle contractions alone. Because the underlying muscle doesn’t move, the skin above it no longer creases.

Thus, the effects of BOTOX® are most noticeable in frown and laughter lines.

BOTOX® does not remove wrinkles which are permanently engraved in the skin, regardless of muscle movement, although it may soften them.

Mostly, the top half of face where wrinkles are deepened by smiling and frowning. However, BOTOX® also corrects crow’s feet, forehead lines, vertical neck bands, grooves above the upper lip and gummy smiles.

BOTOX® is also a very effective treatment for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) in the armpits or hands.

Your initial results will appear within 2-5 days and continue to improve for up to 14 days, when the results will peak.

With Aesthetics by Keeley, we contact you 14 days after your treatment to determine if you require a free top-up injection. If necessary, we’ll book you in whenever you’re free for a follow up.

Usually 3-4 months. In some cases, 6 months. If you are being treated for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) in the armpits, BOTOX® usually lasts 8 months.

No. The smallest needles on the market are used, so few customers experience even mild discomfort.
If you prefer, ice or local anaesthetic cream can be applied to minimise sensation.

Yes, but you can usually have the BOTOX® treatment at the same appointment as the consultation.

As BOTOX® has no recovery time, there is little aftercare required. Immediately following treatment, you can enhance its effects by gently moving the treated area with mild facial exercises.

For the first 2 hours after treatment, it’s important not to rub the affected areas. For the succeeding 24 hours, don’t engage in any vigorous exercise, drink alcohol or experience prolonged sun exposure – whether natural or artificial.

Some, but most are related to the actual act of injecting the skin, not the product itself. These include: minor redness or swelling around the injection site (which vanishes within 1-2hrs), minor bruising on occasions, headaches and a very small risk of infection around the entry point. In very rare cases, clients can experience a temporary droop of the eyelid.

No. Your appearance will simply return to how it was before you began treatment

FAQS
Dermal Fillers

Essentially, the lower-half of the face. As well as plumping up lips, dermal fillers correct ever-present lines and lost volume around the forehead, cheeks and upper lip. They also add volume to thinning or crepey skin across hands and the upper body.

Skin is made up of three vital layers: the hypodermis, the dermis and the epidermis. The hypodermis, the deepest level of skin, consists of fatty tissue, which cushions the layers above it.

Immediately on top of that is the dermis, which contains collagen and elastin – two key attributes to a youthful appearance. Constantly renewed in the young, production of these slow dramatically with age.

The epidermis, or top layer, is the home of crucial cell renewal. In young skin, cells are replaced every 15-30 days, but this slows to every 60 days in later adulthood.

Dermal filler replaces lost volume and treats static facial lines by replenishing the natural hyaluronic acid content of the skin.

Juvederm ULTRA lasts 6-9 months. We also use Juvederm VOLUMA which maintain their effects for up to 18 months.
Revolax lasts 12-18 months.

Yes, you will require a consultation before treatment, but – like with our Botox – you can usually have the treatment during the same appointment.

Our most popular dermal fillers, Juvederm ULTRA, and Revolax have an in-built anaesthetic called lidocaine which enhances comfort. We can also use anaesthetic cream or a dental block if you’d prefer.

There is no recovery time with dermal fillers, so you can immediately resume normal daily activities. As with Botox, patients should avoid excessive alcohol, exercise or sun for the first 24 hours.

Most possible side effects are related to the action of injecting the skin, not the product itself. These include: redness, minor swelling, itching, tenderness around injection site and potential lumps in the treated area. These can be reduced by massage.

If you are prone to cold sores, there is a small chance that one will occur following a lip enhancement. In very rare instances (1 in 15,000) blood supply from the smallest vessels can be disrupted causing scab formation and, in some cases, scarring.

FAQS
Dermaplaning & Chemical Peels

Dermaplaning uses a surgical blade to perform a deep exfoliation. The edge of the scalpel is used at a 45-degree angle to scrape the build-up of dirt and oils in and around the skin and vellus hair.

The vellus hair is completely removed during the process leaving skin ultra-smooth and creating the perfect base for make-up application.

Skin peels work by exfoliating the outer layers of skin, removing dead cells and revealing fresh new cells underneath. It is a much deeper exfoliation than that of typical exfoliating creams and lotions used at home. Peels also help to stimulate the body’s own natural collagen production and can improve elasticity.

Dermaplaning – After eye makeup is removed the skin will be double-cleansed to create a clear canvas for treatment. Skin is then blotted and degreased using an oil-free toner. The dermaplaning procedure is methodically carried out working the whole face one area at a time. After the dermaplaning is complete we will apply a serum or moisturiser depending on skin type and a lip and eye product to finish.

The treatment is completely pain-free and no downtime is required.

Chemical Peel – Skin is cleansed with a prepping agent that removes excess oils so the chemical peel solution can cut through the skins barrier to get down to where it needs to. One or more of the liquid chemical solutions are then applied to of your skin an area at a time using a brush.

Your skin will tingle and feel quite warm – this is the active ingredient’s doing their job! If necessary further passes of the peel will be applied to achieve desired results.

Once the peel has been left for the optimum amount time the skin is neutralised. A post-treatment mask helps to calm and soothe skin and the treatment is finished with nourishing moisturiser and an SPF for protection.

Dermaplaning is a very safe procedure. Skin is stretched during the procedure and the blade is always held at a 45-degree angle to reduce the risk of nicking the skin with the blade. If you have dry patches of skin, a small amount of serum is applied to enable to the blade to glide across the skin smoothly.

Skin may be a little pink immediately after treatment due to being stretched but this normally subsides within an hour or so.

Peach fuzz / vellus hairs do not come back thicker and stronger. It will grow back at exactly the same rate, thickness and texture as before.

Peels – Skin will be slightly red or pink immediately after treatment depending on your skin type. Some peels can lead to light swelling of the treated area or peeling of the skin a few days after the treatment. Peeling will vary depending on the strength of peel used and the condition of your skin.

As it heals, your skin would also be more sensitive to the sun, so you need to use sunscreen for at least a month after treatment.

Dermaplaning treatment can be carried out every 3-4 weeks and removal of peach fuzz / vellus hair and dead skin can be achieved with a single treatment.

One of the main benefits of this advanced facial is that it can be paired to enhance the benefits and results of other treatments such as skin peels. By removing the build-up of hair, oils, dirt and dry skin it increases penetration of product and complementary therapies meaning quicker, better results.

Chemical Peels – We recommend a course of six peels with a treatment every 2-4 weeks. Maintenance treatments every 4-6 weeks will ensure results last and skin remains bright and clear.

Dermaplaning is the ultimate glow treatment, skin is instantly ultra-smooth, glowing and refreshed, When combined with other therapies results are amplified.

Dermaplaning is three times as effective as microdermabrasion alone and creates the perfect base for makeup application.

Chemical Peels – Improvements can be noticed after just one treatment and after a course of treatment skin will be smoother, brighter and more refined.
